Raw Black Metal vs Symphonic Black Metal

Postby Loucifer » Wed Apr 11, 2012 11:26 am

I'll admit it, there's no real point to this thread... I just wanted to start a poll... I don't think we've got enough polls on here at the moment :P

So, which do you prefer - raw BM or Symphonic BM?

Vote now... there's also a couple of 'sitting on the fence' kinda options too... which I'll probably end up using... because I'm a bit rubbish...

Personally, I enjoy a bit of both. Some days, nothing works better than some harsh, old school, raw Black Metal... but, other times, a bit of symphonic stuff goes a long way...

Vote, my pretties! Vote!

Raw.

I do like Symphonic Black Metal. But for me I love bands like Horna, Koldbrann, Beherit etc

Norway & Finland are the best at Raw black metal in my book.

9 times out of 10 i will take Symphonic BM. But, there are raw BM bands i like. Overall though, within the last 2 years i have moved over to the more progressive styled BM and viking styled BM.

I like them both.

However, I have to say, no matter what flavor of black metal I choose, I always, ALWAYS want them to sound good.

There are ways to sound brutal and raw with good production/mixing/mastering, too, I think, and while I totally respect the creative decision behind using lo-fi sound, it just doesn't do it for me.

Occupational hazard, I guess.

I'm on a bit of both. I don't however like this deliberately making the production sound shit = more raw idea though.

I used to like symphonic BM the most but over the last decade ive come to like all sorts of BM. However, its all about production and if it sounds like i could of created it in my toilet than i have no use for it.

Oh, I agree - deliberately poor production is rubbish. However, there are ways to create a raw sound without it sounding shit. I like that :)

Out of curiousity, who voted for Raw? It just stands out because everyone else so far has voted for both :P
I'm so nosey...
